Bismarck Parks and Recreation has opened its BCycle program for the third season, and expanded it to include e-bikes.
The Park District added 10 pedal-assisted e-bikes to the fleet with the help of a $10,000 grant from the Tom and Frances Leach Foundation, a Bismarck area charitable nonprofit. The new e-bikes, along with a fleet of about 45 classic pedal bikes, were deployed earlier this month.
The addition of e-bikes is part of an effort to increase program accessibility to users who may not be able to use a traditional pedal bike. The bikes feature power assist, requiring a user to pedal in order to power a battery and electric motor.
