When Moch Moved to Bismarck Mandan, She Brought Her Childhood Home With Her
Moch was born in Braddock southeast of Bismarck Mandan but moved here when she was young. In recent years, she purchased her childhood home from that small town and moved it to Bismarck with her.
“It’s a piece of our history we get to live in every day,” says Moch. “I’m baking the same things my mother did in the same kitchen.”
Moch says she is surrounded by supportive family and friends who make her little bakery possible.
Baking is the love language of Moch and her team at Batter Together. Their goal is to share their passion with others and bring a little bit more sweetness to life's big moments for their customers.
Moch Lives in Bismarck Mandan Because of Its Supportive Communities
When asked why she loves living in Bismarck Mandan, Moch offers several reasons, ranging from the climate to the safe neighborhoods. She loves the seasons – both the summers and the snow – and is happy that her kids are growing up on a street where they can play outside and make friends with the neighbors around them.
However, she also credits the local business community for her success in Bismarck Mandan and her choice to stay here. Residents have embraced Batter Together and made it an essential part of the Bismarck confectionary scene.
“We are also fortunate to live somewhere that is so local and small-business-minded,” says Moch. “BisMan is big enough to encourage all kinds of entrepreneurs but also small enough to feel like a community supporting the person next door.”
Moch Says Bismarck-Mandan Promotes Dreams
Moch has noticed exponential growth in Bis Man in recent years. Not only are there more people across town – and more companies and housing to accommodate them – but there has also been an increase in entrepreneurship and imagination in the small business community.
“Things like breweries, distilleries, specialty restaurants, boutiques, and the passing of the North Dakota Cottage Food Law in 2017 make it possible for the dreamer to see if they can make their goals a reality,” says Moch. “They can be sure there is a market for their product without risking everything.”
A great example of this is Mandan Market Nights, which debuted in June 2024. Over the course of the summer, the market doubled its vendors and tripled its sales. By August, 300 to 400 people were visiting the market each week. This creates a brand-new opportunity for entrepreneurs to introduce their products to new customers and build their brands before potentially expanding to permanent storefronts. The BisMarket, with 40 to 45 vendors, is another strong starting point for entrepreneurs.
“I hope that BisMan continues to grow just like it has been,” says Moch. “We have a unique ability to grow and stay small at the same time.”
